Botataung StupaRangoon Botataung was completely rebuilt after WWII, when an air raid destroyed the original. Very unusually, the zedi was rebuilt as a hollow shell; a person can wander through the mirrored interior and see innumerable small statues and other relics, including an elaborately-enshrined hair relic of the Buddha, which had been buried in the solid interior of the original stupa. The zedi's exterior is currently (2004) under wraps, as part of a refurbishing project. Botahtaung is an alternate spelling of this temple. |
