Kneeling DiscipleSouth Shrine, Ananda Temple This charming figure, kneeling at the feet of Kassapa, is evidently a disciple in the robes of a monk. His expression is sweetly devoted. Strachan, p. 70, assigns this figure to the Ava period, and identifies it as either Mogallana or Sariputta, who are two main disciples of Gautama Buddha. However, this would be anachronistic, since the South buddha is Kassapa, not Gautama. |
