Alopye Temple
Pagan, Burma
Early 12th century
The temple follows a Pyu-type design, in which the superstructure is topped by a stupa-shaped finial. Its entrance is at the east,
with windows (not seen in this photograph) on the north and south
sides. Its upper level is accessible by a stairway but, unlike later
temples, there is no upper-level shrine.
