Wat Burapharam continues a long tradition in Southeast Asia of commingling Hindu and Buddhist iconography in the decoration of Buddhist temples. Its lintel depicts Buddha's tonsure (the cutting of his hair from princely into sannyasa (ascetic) style), with his faithful horse looking back adoringly from the right. The pediment above the lintel pictures Skanda, with attributes of Vishnu and Shiva but in single-headed rather than multi-headed form, riding on his peacock and supported by a green telamon.
