Head of Jayavarman VII

Provenance unknown
Sandstone, 42 cm (17")
late 12th to early 13th century
Musee Guimet, Paris

Here is yet another portrait head of Jayavarman, from the Musee Guimet, that displays the monarch in all his piety and humility. The image is very similar, yet not quite identical, to that on the previous page. According to Thierry Zephir (Millennium of Glory, p. 302), this head may have been originally gilded.
