Court dance in Southeast Asia got its start with the Khmers. Then Thai conquerors spread it, first into Thailand itself, and subsequently into the other states of the subcontinent. It became nearly extinct in the wars and revolutions of the 20th century, and people are now trying to revive it as part of their cultural heritage.
