Seated Buddha
Lan-Na, 15-16c
National Museum, Bangkok
Lan-na was an independent state in northern Thailand (1259-1558).
This Buddha, seated in the usual bhumisparsha mudra, seems to exhibit
a Sukhothai influence in the descending curve of his
eyebrows. His eyes, appearing somewhat unfocused in meditation,
are half-opened.
His mouth is narrow, and his downward-pointing arm and hand drapes
at a wide angle over his knee.
