Buddha Head

Wat Mahathat, Ayutthaya

This stone head of Buddha has become entrapped in the roots of a tree, creating one of the most unusual sights in Ayutthaya. The roots continue to grow. This photo was taken January 24, 2004; photos from 1990 show an inch or two of uncovered cheek at photo right, while photos taken in 1980 show the entire face uncovered.
