Causeway

Angkor Wat

A causeway leads across the moat to the western entrance of the city (see map.) The causeway is viewed here from the south, in the morning light. A flight of steps descends from a naga platform (closeup) to the level of the moat. According to Freeman and Jacques (p.49), the causeway was built one hundred years after the temple, which would originally have been approached via wooden bridges.
