North "Library"
Bayon, Angkor Thom
Typically these annexes were built in pairs, one on each side
of the main axis of a temple, between the second and first
enclosures. The south face of the north annex is seen here.
Usually called "libraries" because they were thought to contain
copies of the scriptures, their actual function is unknown. They
might have been storerooms or treasuries, containing temple
paraphernalia.
