South Temple (plan)
Slab with paired post holes.
Interior rooms in the temple were screened off by animal hides attached to wooden poles. The poles would fit into sockets such as these. Similar construction was used for roofing, gates, and animal tethers.
It may seem that the slab should appear standing on its end, as in the Central Temple entrance, rather than lengthwise as here. However, the angle of the post holes, and their position in the slab, are slightly different between the two examples.
