Mnajdra
This standing stone is embedded, rather strikingly, in an otherwise regular apse wall. Similar constructions can be seen in many of the Maltese temples. Evidently the upright was set in place first, and then later a wall was erected around it. But how much later? Is it just a corner stone, or the remnant of a much earlier sacred structure?
The wall is seen here from the outside.
