Europeans Playing Musical Instruments

Kataluva Purvarama Temple

It is always interesting "To see ourselves (Europeans) as others see us." In this small vignette from a late-19th-century wall painting, a crowd of festively-dressed British men and women plays instruments that include drums, an accordion, a hurdy-gurdy, and a coiled brass horn. This probably represents a Christmas holiday celebration, since one can see what looks like hanging ornaments in the background.
