Vatadage

Sacred Center, Polonnaruwa

One of the four entrances to the vatadage is seen here. It is flanked as usual by a pair of guardstones, and fronted by a moonstone. At the head of each staircase, is an image of the seated meditating Buddha. The risers of the stairs are decorated by dancing dwarves.
