Planting Rice

Sri Lanka

A line of village ladies transplant rice shoots into the fields along the road from Habarana to Kandy. More than one crop per year is possible in most parts of Sri Lanka. The work will be done at different times in different areas of the country, depending on the local microclimate (elevation, monsoons). During our visit in November we saw fields in just about every stage of cultivation, from planting to harvesting.
