The tea manufacturing process in Sri Lanka does not use very sophisticated machines, but produces excellent tea that is in demand world-wide; tea was Sri Lanka's largest agricultural export in 2007.

The machine on the left is a leaf roller (sign above); this step releases enzymes and other substances within the leaf which begin the fermentation process.
