Kelaniya Stupa

Kelaniya, Sri Lanka

The bell of Kelaniya's modern stupa is shaped in the pyramidal "grain-heap" style. In this photo, several workers (cleaners) are climbing a ladder up to the top of the bell. An elaborate, squared entrance shrine is set at the base of the stupa, photo right. The structure at photo left is one corner of the image house that contains Solias Mendis's celebrated paintings (see following pages).
