Cruciform Shrine

Gadaladeniya Temple

The cruciform building pictured here is of unique design. Each end of the cross enshrines a Buddha image, and is topped by a pagoda-like dome. The center of the structure is dominated by a larger, roofed, pagoda-dome that is supported by four thick round pillars. The building is a fascinating pastiche of dagoba, vatadage, vahalkada, and shikhara elements.
