Mount Lu is a mountain in China's Jiangxi province. In Chinese and Korean lore it was romanticized as the dwelling-place of immortals, and in modern times (long after this painting was made) it served as a summer resort; both Pearl S. Buck and Mao Zedong stayed there. As an advocate of true view landscape painting, Jeong Seon usually painted native Korean scenery, rather than scenes like this Chinese mountain.
