Iconography of Seokguram Gyeongju, Korea The arrangement of images in the grotto has suggested, to many authors, a convocation of deities and disciples who gathered for 21 days to hear Shakyamuni preach the Avatamsaka Sutra. However, other identifications have also been proposed; for example, Amitabha instead of Shakyamuni as the central figure.
