Military ProcessionAnak Tomb #3, 357 A.D.
Here is another detail from the military procession. The ruler Dong Shou is riding in his chariot in the lower left corner, escorted by functionaries; one holds a staff with three "pom-poms" (horseman, lower edge of image) that seems to be Dong Shou's standard, as it is also prominently depicted in his tomb portrait. The area above is occupied by prominent riders, who are wearing robes rather than armor. The artist's skill can be appreciated in the depth and liveliness of the scene, and the unfussy assurance of his drawing technique. |
