Daejeokkwangjeon
Second courtyard, Haeinsa Temple
Gayasan National Park, Korea
Climbing up the stairs on either side of Gugwangnu (previous page), we reach the second courtyard with its stone lantern and memorial stupa. Daejeokkwangjeon, the Main Hall of the temple, is located on-axis, above yet another flight of stairs. It is topped with a Chinese-style hipped roof, befitting its importance. The hall was destroyed by a fire in 1986 and rebuilt 1994.
