Yeongsanjeon

East Courtyard of Tongdosa Temple (map)
Yangsan, Korea

As mentioned on the previous page, Yeongsan Hall was first built in 646, and rebuilt by King Sukjon (reigned 1675 to 1720) of the Joseon dynasty. "Yeongsan" is a Korean rendition of "Vulture Peak," the locale in India where Shakyamuni preached the Lotus Sutra; inside the hall there is a painting of eight stages in the life of Shakyamuni.
