Tongdosa Temple (map)
Yangsan, Korea

From right to left: Yeongsanjeon (next page), a stone lantern, a three-story pagoda (Late Silla), Yaksajeon, and the Gate of Non-Duality (previous page). Yeongsan Hall was first built in 646, and last restored by King Sukjon (reigned 1675 to 1720) of the Joseon dynasty. "Yeongsan" is a Korean rendition of "Vulture Peak," the locale in India where Shakyamuni preached the Lotus Sutra; inside the hall there is a painting of eight stages in the life of Shakyamuni. Yaksajeon is dedicated to the Buddha of Healing (Medicine Buddha).
