Gate of Non-Duality

East Courtyard of Tongdosa Temple (map)
Yangsan, Korea

Buri-mun is the third gate of the temple; passing through that gate, one enters the Western courtyard, a realm that, philosophically speaking, embraces the identity of opposites. This photo looks up and back through the gate, to the West courtyard that we have already visited (previous pages).

The lower photograph illustrates the late-Joseon style of ornamental bracketing and painting inside the gate, including ornamental dragons in the corners.
