View from the Lotte Hotel
Daejeon, South Korea
Construction here, as everywhere else in South Korea, drives the business indicators. The wedge-shaped building in the center contains a typical mixture of fast-food restaurants and small stores on the ground floor, and offices above. A small, chip-and-putt golf course is seen to the front, an equally small ampitheatre behind and slightly to the right. A fifty-foot-tall statue1 of a golfer - one truly wonders what it is doing there - stands at the center of it all.
1I don't want to call this statue a "colossus," because that somehow doesn't seem to be its intent, in spite of its amazing size.
