Obelisk Tomb

Bab as-Siq
Petra, Jordan

Further along the way to the Siq, the Obelisk Tomb was erected by "Abdomanchos son of Achaios," probably in the reign of Malichus II (40/44-70 AD). An inscription, written by Abdomanchos, indicates that the tomb was to be used for himself and his family "forever after." Its lower story is a triclinium for funeral banquets; the second story contained interments in loculi and shaft graves.
