Tomb of Uneishu

Street of Facades, Petra

The Tomb of Uneishu is located on the east bank of the wadi, across from the Street of Facades and halfway between the Khazneh and the Theatre. The photogenic tomb, with its imperfectly restored facade1, is an important example of a complete funerary complex with loculi, forecourt, and porticos, like the Roman Soldier Tomb Complex along the Wadi Farasa.

1The original would probably have had a second pair of columns framing the entrance, a second pediment, and additional decoration as with the other elaborate tombs at Petra. For the difficulties involved in restoring ancient buildings, see Restoration Controversy.
