Buried Tomb
Outer Siq, Petra
This striking image illustrates just how deeply the silt, carried down the flooded Wadi Musa
in post-Nabataean times, has buried its monuments. Only the crow-step crown of the facade,
a design inherited from the Iron Age kingdom of Assyria, is visible above ground.
The Outer Siq runs from the Treasury to the Street of Facades; it is incorrectly identified as the Bab-es-Siq on some websites, but
Bab-es-Siq ("The Entrance to the Siq") is a different place entirely.
