Interior of Main Chamber

Al Khazneh (The Treasury), Petra

The monument's interior has three small rooms leading from the rear and sides of the main chamber; and is mostly undecorated; these features are typical of Nabataean tomb architecture. The beautiful, natural coloration of the rock is also typical, although this would have been painted and plastered over, both inside and outside, in antiquity. A basin and water channel, not seen in this photo, are cut into the floor of the threshold, where they would have been used for commemorative rites.
