Great TemplePetra, Jordan
This view shows the Great Temple from above and behind the structure, looking north. In the foreground are the columns and remaining walls of the upper terrace, below which is the large open square of the lower terrace. To its right, one sees the re-erected columns of the east triple colonnade. Unusually, these columns substituted carved elephant heads for the volutes on their capitals. An example is in the Petra Museum. |
