Hadrian's Arch, Jerash

The western pylon of Hadrian's Arch is viewed here from the north. This magnificent gateway was built to commemorate the Emperor's visit in 129 AD, which ushered in a Golden Age of prosperity for the city of ancient Gerasa. There is an acanthus design on the bases as well as the capitals of the large columns.

This photo was taken during a reconstruction project in 2005.
