Jomon Miniature Pots

Sannai Maruyama Site Museum
Aomori, Japan

Miniature pots were buried as grave goods, to ease the deceased person's existence in the afterlife. The dead, according to ancient belief, have to eat and drink just like us. The pots might also have have been used in other rituals, for example as offerings to the gods or symbols of abundance for the living. The miniature pottery at Oyu Stone Circles provides another example.
