Mori Shogunzuka Kofun

Chikuma City, Nagano Prefecture

This casually-displayed haniwa on the top of the kofun is of course a reproduction - but I think a rather sensitive one - that perhaps recreates a find spot. If I had just one wish for public archaeology in Japan, or indeed for public archaeology in general, it would simply be that archaeological sites and museums ought to accurately label their displays, in much greater length than they do at present, while paying particular attention to what is real and original vs. what is reconstructed and recreated.
