Hair Relic of Lafcadio Hearn

Shiominawate, Matsue

Hearn died in 1904 and is buried in Tokyo. This small urn, located on the grounds of the Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum, contains a lock of his hair that was donated by the family in 1971, for all the world like a sarira relic in a traditional stupa. Hearn would, no doubt, have been very pleased.
