Lafcadio Hearn's Former Residence

Shiominawate, Matsue

Hearn and his wife lived here from May to November, 1891; the house was formerly a Samurai residence, like others on Shiominawate street. Hearn was particularly fond of its garden, which he wrote about in his book "Glimpses of an Unfamiliar Japan."
