Three-story Pagoda

Kiyomizu-dera, Kyoto

Rising to a height of 31m (just over 100 ft), Kiyomizu-dera's Sanju-no-to is one of the tallest three-story pagodas in Japan.

Among all pagodas in Japan, Toji's five-story pagoda takes the prize today at 55m (181ft). Even taller ones existed in the past, e.g. Hoshoji at 83 meters (272.3 feet, destroyed by fire in the 15th century during the Onin War.)
