Teahouse

Fushimi Inari Shrine, Kyoto

This teahouse (1630) was originally part of Sento Gosho, the palace of retired emperor Go-Mizuno'o, who subsequently donated it to the shrine. The interior is arranged in sukiya shoin style. "Sukiya" means "personal taste." In this style the formal shoin layout of the rooms is relaxed, in order to accomodate individual preferences and variations.
