Turtle-shaped Platforms

Candi Sukuh

Three small platforms, shaped like turtles, are placed in front of the pyramid. Tortoises support Mt. Meru in Hindu cosmology, and Imperial edicts in China. The turtle platforms shown here must likewise be supports; but of what, we do not know.
