Rama ReliefCandi Shiva, Prambanan As mentioned previously, it is not obvious what Rama is doing on the decorated base of the Shiva temple. The Ramayana panels, though (which appear on Candi Brahma as well as Candi Shiva) do seem to help integrate the theoretically disparate worship of the Trimurti into a uniquely Southeast Asian unity. In the present panel, Rama (with bow) is seated like a king and flanked by his consorts, Lakshmi and Sri (not Sita; the Rama triad borrows its ladies from the Vishnu triad, since Rama is an incarnation of Vishnu.) |
