The shadow puppets of Wayang Kulit, cut out of buffalo hide and animated by the dalang (puppeteer), enact a scene from the always-popular Ramayana. Ideally these evocative shadows ought to be brought to life by the flickering flames of an oil lamp, but for practical reasons an electric light is used in most venues today.
