Three Lingas

Goa Gajah cave, near Ubud
Bali, Indonesia

Inside, the cave is excavated in a "T" shape that runs back about 9m (30 ft) from the entrance, and then 13.5m (44 ft) crossways. There are fifteen niches cut into the wall; some are long enough to serve as sleeping places, while others may have held devotional statues, like the three lingas seen here. The lingas are carved out of a single block of stone, and each is surrounded by eight smaller lingas (covered up by the cloth, in this photo) around the base. Other Buddhist and Shaiva statues, currently displayed inside, include Ganesha, Hariti, and a guardian.
