Kala-Makara Arch

Candi Arjuna

Like so many temples in SE Asia, the entrance and niches of Arjuna are framed by a kala-makara arch. The kala is at the top of the arch. The serpents define the body of the arch, which rests on two outward-pointing makara heads. A makara-headed overflow spout (next page) exits the temple below the niche.

This niche is located on the north face of the temple.
