Inner Courtyard

Pura Taman Ayun, Mengwi

Shrines with tall meru roofs, resembling the pagodas of China and Japan, line the right side of the courtyard. The shrines do not carry images on their platforms; they are more like temporary dwellings, that the gods are invited to occupy during temple ceremonies. At photo left, is a line of ceremonial pavilions.
