Jain Figure

Jain Complex, Osian

This crowned and jewelled figure is a Jain savior or saint. He is fastened to two upright pillars, as an aid to meditation. He is standing in a device (lower legs) that is a postural aid, and supported on either side by two small attendants.

Normally, Jain tirthankaras are depicted without clothing or ornaments; the figure here is anomalous.
