Dancing LakshmiKeshava Temple, Somnathpur Multi-armed Lakshmi dances to the drumbeat of a small attendant at her feet. She bears attributes including lotus bud and stalk, lotus coil, chakra, and fruit. The middle left arm has broken off, as has the figure of a small attendant (probably another drummer) below her left side. Her upper right hand probably held a rosary, now worn or broken (compare the similar hand position of Sarasvati.) Lakshmi is an Indic fertility goddess, the consort of Vishnu. |
