Konarak

The entrance side (east) of Konarak's enormous jagamohan, encased in scaffolding for restoration, is viewed here from the dance hall. Prior restoration is evident on the entrance arch, stairs, and the wall to the right. The jagamohan's triangular roof is laid in three courses, interrupted by bands of fine sculpture and topped by an amalaka. Some closeups of the roof sculpture are shown on the following page.
