Stone Chariot

Vitthala Temple, Vijayanagara

Looking northeast. The stone chariot is a Garuda shrine which faces west towards Vishnu's temple (plan). Garuda is the mount of Vishnu, and as usual the mount faces the god. The building north of the stone chariot is often called the "prayer hall." It is a pillared hall that was used for religious ceremonies.
