Mosque Interior

Jami Masjid, Fatehpur Sikri (plan)

The interior of the mosque is essentially a shallow rectangle whose major axis points north-south and is divided into a series of interconnected bays with tall ceilings and columns. In front of the bays, incised lines in the stone floor demarcate the areas allotted to individual prayer mats. Niches occupy the west wall, the direction of Mecca.
