Bodhi Tree
Mahabodhi Temple, Bodhgaya
The decorated railing at the west end of the temple marks off
the sacred bodhi tree, or rather one descended from the
original through the planting of saplings from it and its successors.
It is here where the Buddha attained
enlightenment. Also within the railing, concealed
by layers of modern cloth, is a square slab of stone,
traditionally called the Buddha's vajrasana, or "diamond
seat" (but possibly a 3d-century BC altar top).
